
As I rode my scooter to the office yesterday, I went through a storm of cottonwood seeds floating through the lovely spring air. It made me smile. They can be both annoying and beautiful at the same time. There were no cottonwood trees where I grew up in Florida, so I didn’t get to experience the ‘summer snow’ effect these diaphanous little wisps have on a place. In May, when I was thinking about the June calendar and some of the nature-based items that make the Roaring Fork Valley special, the first thing that popped into my head was cottonwood. And so, I didn’t have to think any further about what the June calendar would look like … it was cottonwood and blue skies—100%.
